The inaugural Tennessee Music Awards event occurred in 2017. The program was created by Nathan Hunnicutt after seeking strategic support from the local music community and the Jackson Music Society. Hunnicutt has experienced music all over the Volunteer State, having lived in each part of Tennessee, including Jackson, Nashville, and Johnson City, Hunnicutt . He directly selects artists for private American Idol auditions, is the President of Arkansas Country Music Awards, Inc., and the Executive Director of the Hot Springs Village Area Chamber of Commerce, and he and is wife Tiffany have seven home-schooled children. Hunnicutt attended Freed-Hardeman University, earned an MBA from Harding University, and attended East Tennessee State University.
